#RenovateBlackham
When I started this #RenovateBlackham bit, actually had some engineer friends reach out and we did a (pseudo) cost analysis. Granted, this was pre-covid materials prices. That's important because the structure needs significant concrete work and right now, that cost about $125 per yard. (3 years ago, it was roughly $55-65 per yard)
Anyway, to bring everything to code, expand and retrofit restrooms, new scoreboards, update all electrical, build out concession footprint, plumbing for all, etc.. You're looking at $11-12 million. Which funny enough, is what they spent to renovate the CajunDome.
3700 is about our capacity of basketball fans these days.
Do not renovate Blackham. One thing people are forgetting is parking. If it rains, everyone is parked in a pasture and many cars will get stuck. The Cajundome is a premier arena. Going back to Blackham would really be USLing it.
