Football doesn’t have the luxury of waiting on results, like both our basketball programs. Unless USLing it is the long game. But we will know next year, we were told this was the best hire out there…continue the success…CMD had connections. It seems this next season is where the rubber meets the road…or we slide into oblivion. It’s success on the field that sells a new stadium, grows the program (along with a real marketing plan). It’s a big season next year in many ways.

Des’ contacts outside of lafayette is very limited as he only knows coaches that he might have met briefly at coaching conventions. He never spent time on several different staffs at several several schools as most coaches do coming up through the ranks. It will be hard for him to fire coaches and bring better coaches in.

That's how some athlete named Waites that didn't play HS football was rated a 3 Star after not ever playing a down of football. I'm not concerned at this time, and I will wait to see how they finish and the improvements on the football field.

Some of you should not follow recruiting because you don't have the stomach for it.
T, to your point, last Monday Justin Horne had no rating on 247. I think I remember you speaking highly of the young man.

His rating was updated Friday to a an 86.

He decommitted yesterday and already committed to Texas Tech.

Wished the updated ranking would have come out after early signing day. Shows we are on some of the right recruits.

With NIL in play, if stars are your thing, wait until after signing day. Stars will fluctuate until then. It’s all unicorn milk anyway.

Yeah, the idea of updated ratings leading to the recommitting of players to P5s scares me.

But folks want to have it both ways: condemn Des for recruiting "unrated BCS" talent, then taking him to task for not holding onto that talent when it is reevaluated and LSU or Texas Tech pilfer them.

How is it possible he decommitted and committed to a P5? We only go after FCS kids.

There needs to be a serious decision made next year if the results are the same as this year.

Our conference, especially the West, looks to be getting better again. Troy, South AL and Southern Miss will leave us behind quickly if we don't get things back to where they were just a couple short years ago. Texas State has a new university President who fully believes in athletics being a front door to community and student enthusiasm for their school. He is going to be serious about their football program becoming competitive and trying to generate a fun, local atmosphere. Texas State's new school leadership appears to be the opposite of Martin Hall.

Meanwhile in-state, Tulane is in a NY6 Bowl and LA Tech will get better at some point.

Our football program and those who are paid well to oversee it (Athletic Director, University President and VP) don't have the luxury of being "comfortable" and taking a "wait and see" approach. The Sunbelt Conference may prove itself to be the top G5 conference this season, and if not this season, in the very near future.

I can’t argue with this. Very accurate post.
