Thread: Another one in the boat....Mason Clinton

Recruiting rankings, stars, offers and all that go into it have never really been a big interest. At least for me. Especially now when you have all the publicity around it, recruits flipping or entering the portal, NIL deals, hat ceremonies. It's too much theater and it's a crap shoot.

But, looking back just at the last 4 years, Billy's teams had some stand out names with interesting offers. A lot with P5 or peer school interest. That resulted in top ranked classes, and we know how his teams performed.

Not to say that class ranking is the biggest indicator of success, but it's certainly something we've seen work for us. I hope the recruits we bring in are all conference guys, but it feels like we're falling behind. Is that the case?

I would much rather sign guys like this than the ones with stars that are busts.

We haven’t missed on many kids in the last 4 years

It’s good these days not to sign kids with busts . . .

You would rather sign no star busts versus 3 star busts? What does it matter if they both bust

    That’s not what he said . . .

I don't care to look at stars as much as I like to look at who else offered them. Coaches know how to evaluate talent. If none of your peers offered him there probably is a problem there.

It may not be a huge amount, but i bet its more than most think. also, lots of lower star commits have become impact players on the field.

A kid like Clinton that only started his senior year, may have a chance on the OL with his athletism.

Waites had no profile or rankings. He definitely was a zero star when he committed.

Well 2/3 of our commits are zero stars. Coaches def have their work cut out for them. We're ranked nearly at the bottom of our conference. Only ahead of ODU, JMU and ULM. It's a little concerning seeing this much of a drop off.
