Well, that's one game. It's unacceptable but its still one game. We had 25k for homecoming in FB. When is the last time MBB put 5k in the dome? JJ Thomas - Fear the Beard?

2017 through 2019 they had multiple crowds over 5k. Nothing close since Covid.

Support of the program decides the importance. MBB has little to no support, except the Social Club which you seem to be a part of. Glasco has more conference championships than all UL coaches combined and Marlin will be gone before Glasco is gone. Lets look at attendance. MBB had 1000 actual folks in the dome, softball gets 1500 to 1800 actual folks per game. Give up you dream of MBB at UL ever winning a natty.

Homecoming for football was 20,671. Everyone uses reported figures for attendance. While the apathy with basketball is devastating and I personally miss caring about Cajuns Bball, there is no comparison between the two problems. Football we are bad on a national level and the dregs of our own conference. Basketball we will be middle of the pack conference wise and outdraw plenty of peer programs. I still contend both programs have a couple of the worst game atmospheres you can find though. Complete failure of the athletic department.

The fact that Volleyball has close to what MBB has in social media followers should be a HUGE red flag. Also comparing attendances, there shouldn’t be a close contest between any Title IX sport and MBB, yet here we are.

It’s obvious that apathy has hit the MBB program. I’ve said it for 3 years now. When drawing 3100 for the Tech game is considered a “good crowd,” that’s all I need to know in regards to the lack of excitement there is.

It’s been on an overall downward trend since we moved to the dome. It’s become noticeable in the last decade. Statistical fact that’s been posted here before.

And the bs about the dome with sold out crowds is an urban legend. The dome has never sold out for a UL basketball game. Again, statistical fact that’s been posted here.

Mike has pointed out the situation of paying 60k for SWAC teams that hurt the NET, so playing non D1s because they don’t count and are cheaper. That dance has been going on since decades. Fredonia State anyone (Alonzo Allen’s dunk fest)? But placed in scheduled as not to have a trap game, Marquette or Weber St was up next.

Our D1 road and neutral games this year…bringing any one of those teams to the dome doesn’t move the needle.

Texas of course I’m hoping we win, but a 40 loss is a possibility. Then two SBC roadies which a split is possible. And the USM crowd here won’t be large, no band, no students. And this round and round discussion will continue. One of our biggest chances to draw and the league puts it the first week of January.

M$M doesn't need my vote approval, but I can say without hesitation, he's absolutely NOT a part of what I call the "social club." The social club are the people that hold the program back by supporting bad basketball, bad promotional practices, get too cozy with the coach and care more about their seats at the table than the health of our program.

M$M is the kind of fan we NEED to stay invested. Doesn't support blindly but gives the benefit of the doubt and is pretty honest about where we are. Knows his ball as well.

Here’s a solution: don’t lose to bad teams and average 6th place in conference in the last 4 years while ignoring that fact and claiming that basketball is dead in the south.

Justifying mediocrity and complacency equals 2600 for a 8-1 team against Samford.

We can quibble over a few thousand here or there, and I could make the same argument for games not having as much as reported even with the crazy low numbers reported for Troy and GA So. Basketball stings because it used to be a pride of the university and now it’s completely been given up on. Football is a clown show run by Bozo and Co. that is embarrassing on a national level.
