I had seen the old fence listed as a safety concern by visiting teams. It also used to be no warning track, but that was resolved when they installed the turf field.
I think, about 3 years ago, the NCAA wanted to implement having padded fences in all D1 Softball fields. There was a big cry from the smaller schools who said they couldn't afford putting in padding. It is still a hot topic.
. The Sun Belt Softball Tournament will be held at Lamson in May, 2023. There is an expanded number of teams this year. I think I heard that all ten teams will be at this tournament. Then, Coach Glasco seems to think his team will be in contention to host a Regional, if so, I feel the administration does not want to cause the NCAA to negate a Regional here at Lamson because there have been complaints about the fence. Also, the red fence was falling apart. Anyone sitting in the outfield was probably embarrassed to see the rotten boards from the 'other side.' Covering all the bases!
Making sure all our school colors are included . . .
