Funding Athletics

It is entirely possible that 10 years from now there will be only 2 public universities in Louisiana with FBS football, or even with division 1 athletics. That will be the 2 that are not funding athletics on the state teat. Our plan is to be one of the 2. That alone will kick our recruiting througn tne roof.

I never understood this logic. The state allows x number of dollars to be transferred from the general fund to athletics no matter if that school is FCS or FBS. If the state wants to end that they will. And I’m also pretty sure it’s not that much more expensive to be a FBS program. ULM already does it on a Southland budget. If they dropped down, they’d still have the same Southland budget.

Moving to the WAC was supposed to be their demise way back when Mike. According to some the Fossil didn't want to sacrifice baseball, and softball bla,bla, bla.

You may be on to something. We could never get the universities/colleges to consolidate.
They may remain, but the athletic programs may not. The purge will be painful.

The Big 12 has only 7 softball members. We have a nationally recognized program. We should get our foot in the door and apply for softball membership. E. Carolina got in the AAC by starting in a similar way that ultimately led to full membership. Maybe we have the people in charge to make something like that happen. You never know what could happen in a few years. In the meantime ...

HC, East Carolina didn't approach the AAC with a female sport. The Big 12 doesn't hold softball in as high a regard as per say the SEC. But even our baseball team would be a non-starter as well for Big 12 membership. At this point, our goal is to focus on the AAC and that is the best we can do at this time because we are so far behind in our commitment to grow athletics beyond the SBC .

The P5 will eventually down size itself from the bottom programs in the major conferences because it creates more revenue for them with premium scheduling match ups to sell networks. The bottom of the P5 that will be purged will join in with the Top of the G5 to create their own separation with their own premium scheduling match ups to sell networks and on-line streaming. Everyone else that is left in the G5 will create their own regional conferences. You will have three levels of separation at that point.

We want to be at the top of the G5 and that should be our focus 5 year, 7 years to 10 years out. That is the best we can do short term and we better stay focused on that goal while increasing our budget and improving facilities.

.....the G-5s are numbers 7-8-9-10-11 in national rankings....we are just about all a number 9 to them however We do get some 8s and even a few 7s....I know the perception deal but our very few lowest teams and some fairly high gets these rankings for us.....btw we are about in. The middle at lower 90s.....hopefully we stay at our level or higher to get some extra bucks from the ncaa!

It's been a long time. Since I looked at court cases in regards to business monopolies but wondering if congress would ever get into a quasi regulation of ncaa grouping and not allowing teams to join upper echelons of ncaa athletics.....the senator of Montana brings a bill forward to allow his university the right to compete at a fair level for championships......any attorneys take a stab? Raoul where are you?
