Absolutely. Hope they scale that back in the knockout rounds. It seems to be a calculated move. Given the corruption getting this tournament to Qatar and stench of indentured workers and deaths, would not be surprised someone did the math on adding a few minutes and betting impacts.

The US coach in post game intvw alluded to it being some kind of a rule change, counting more things than just injuries to include in stoppage. didnt catch what though.

It's an emphasis by FIFA to make sure that the full 90 minutes is played despite the injuries and time wasting that goes on.

makes sense… i dont really mind not knowing the true time, the ref knows, he can start and stop his watch…. technically thats how all sports are, refs clockmis official not scoreboard, just that when there are differences it isnt as noticeable

How can a sport have any credibility when no one watching has any idea exactly when the game is over? The res just decide the match is over when they get tired of running I suppose!

If you think 8th grade scholarships offers are big news, check this out:

This guy plays for Argentina and is playing in his fourth world cup:

At age four, Di María joined Rosario Central. As he had already committed to playing for his local club, Torito, 35 footballs were given in compensation

So this was kind of odd? An offsides can cancel a penalty, however when messi got accidentally hit in face after ball was headed out of bounds (by him) it was still a penalty.

Not sure if they use the term deadball in soccer or not, but after ball out can still be a foul, prior to a throw in or corner can still be a foul, but not after an offsides, not very consistant.

I know it is supposed to be “one game at a time”, but in the knockout round of 8, it does seem US/dutch winner has the easiest possible matchup compared to rest of bracket slots… argentina or australia. granted in top 8 of the world, “easiest possible” is a very very relative term

I predict in the future that this will be timed to the second. It's just not accurate enough.

seems qatar has been relatively cooler than average (for them), the longer matches could really take its toll in the more intense knockout stages if it warms back up

good point, i wasnt pro or con either way….was just pointing it out.

Then you will have a problem with ball kicked, time expires, goal scores…

    same situation different sports:
    basketball- shot is good
    football- good
    hockey- no goal
    lacrosse- ??

Portugal’s uniforms look pretty awesome. Normally Im an adidas fans, but these are nike and still look pretty neat. The white version (today) could easily have been adapted for USA as well to improve them….

South Korea advanced with win. Their reward, Brazil.

Uruguay salty with refs after they win yet didn’t advance. It’s their own fault they got shutout 2 games, these refs called a game they scored twice.

US pretty much doubling up Netherlands on possession, but when the dutch have the ball they make it look easy. Those 2 goals were crisp.
