Watching the two group C games. Mexico’s second goal a thing of beauty, free kick from ~ 30 yards to upper right 90. Up 2-0 on Saudi Arabia. Argentina up same on Poland.
This bracket is so tight Poland would advance over Mexico on the third tie breaker, “fair play points” presently 4-7 (team with least cards in tournament).
“Drawing of lots” is next and last tiebreaker.
Mexico gives up a goal in the 95th to definitively kill their chance to advance.
Argentina (Australia) and Poland (France) advance to the knockout round.
The added penalty time to some of these matches have been ridiculously excessive.
Absolutely. Hope they scale that back in the knockout rounds. It seems to be a calculated move. Given the corruption getting this tournament to Qatar and stench of indentured workers and deaths, would not be surprised someone did the math on adding a few minutes and betting impacts.
The US coach in post game intvw alluded to it being some kind of a rule change, counting more things than just injuries to include in stoppage. didnt catch what though.
How can a sport have any credibility when no one watching has any idea exactly when the game is over? The res just decide the match is over when they get tired of running I suppose!
