Thread: What are our reasonable expectations

Default What are our reasonable expectations

I am not surprised at our record this year. I was hoping for better, but was expecting 6 to 8 wins. Losing a head coach is one thing, but so many other coaches and staff, along with players to graduation and portal was too much to overcome.

So the question is, "what are our reasonable expectations year end and year out?" I dunno. With escalation of the money wars, conference realignment,. NIL, declining student attendance it's going to be tough to navigate. I would hope that we could maintain 8 to 10 wins a year but again, I dunno. It will be interesting to watch for sure.

At least many of us got to witness the last two years. I told myself "enjoy this," because I figured it wouldn't last forever.

It could be worse, we could have a 90 million buck contract with Jimbo.

Reasonable expectations are to compete for a conference championship every year. Also, being bowl eligible every year. Having said that, there will be years like this year mixed in. The departures, O-line depth, and injuries have really hurt this team this year. However, even with those issues, the team has had a chance to win most of the games.

I would say that I had reasonable expectations which I expected to win 8 games. Looks like I may have been a little too optimistic myself. Still hard to see some of the play calls and schemes that we've seen. I'd say its been pretty disappointing.

There’s no reasonable expectations, because of two things. NIL. & Transfer Portal. It’s totally new.

With regards to the retention of talent. We saw SBC teams helped, or hindered. Needless to say we were decimated. That’s probably because CBN departed, and those loyal to him may have transferred for that alone.

As much turnover as we have had this year, with better coaching we would be at worst 7-2. This is what frustrates me most about this year.

It’s reasonable to expect - at WORST - bowl eligibility and probably 7 wins. Yeah, there’s NIL and transfer portal. But everyone else is dealing with it, too, so we should be finding players that want an opportunity, same as everybody else. Not everyone is transferring to LSU or Ohio State. We have as good of a foundation in place as anyone at our level. We shouldn’t be accepting “well, he’s a nice guy and they try hard” at this point. In any sport.

This team should minimally be at 7-2 right now. Losses to ULM, USA and Troy are games we should have never lost. IMO, losing last second games when we had leads was because of poor play calling and playing not to lose. That had nothing to do with NIL, transfers or loss of coaching staff. This coaching staff needs to be more aggressive and put the hammer down in the 4th qtr. If we get beat, so be it, but not because of playing not to lose.

    This right here.

Based on recent history, it is reasonable to assume that the UL administration has had a taste of football success at the highest reasonably sustainable level & decided that dwelling in that lime light is not for them. They have now taken many steps back from that commitment & it does not appear that any time in the near, or distant future they care to ever take another stab at the brass ring.

If I didn't know better, I would view the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an institution that would just as soon do away with competitive sports & turn itself into an online commuter university. I mean it's just too hard & too much responsibility to maintain a standard of excellence in competitive sports, especially football. That may, or may not sound like a reasonable expectation. But it is definitely the read I am getting from every signal this school is putting out. Someone, anyone, please tell me I'm wrong. But don't just tell me I'm wrong. I beg you, convince me that I'm wrong.

I think the dream scenario for our administration since 1974 is for us to become the UC-Berkeley of the South. If we have to have athletics, so be it, but we will not try very hard or care about them. Meanwhile, we will have highly respected academics and worship at the altar of wokeness.

I don't think those expectations should change for any staff. But I think many here just didn't consider what was lost in talent and coaching experience when making predictions. The bottom line is this staff needs to fix it. I will give Coach Desormeaux the same opportunity as I did with Coach Deggs. If he doesn't get it done, then it's on him and his staff.

That is deeply entrenched in the cU(s)Lture, and even on this board.
