I think this is the tell tale season for Kobe. If something happens again with him and injury, I could see him just hanging up his sneakers. The kid is really a great player and it is clear how much better we are when he is available, but man this seems to be a recurring nightmare since his senior year in High School, which seems to be 100 years ago. I want so badly for this young man to be able to play out his college career and show on the hardwood what he is actually capable of. But I just cringe every time he remotely looks injured, because I realize that might be the last time he suits up for the season or even longer.
I agree, this team with a healthy Kobe is really good. Kobe makes a player like Jordan Brown even better. When you have a guy like Julien that so hard to guard because of his ability to drive, shoot, post and pass the ball, now you have 2 guys that you have to think about double teaming, because every team we play will be looking to double team JB already.
The other thing is we saw how good JB could be when another big man was on the court, it is imperative that a guy like Isaiah Richards is able to be on the court and not only give JB breathers, but also play them together so that JB and IR can pull down some offensive rebounds. I know that Isaiah is not the player that Theo was/is, but just that extra size and availability in a guard dominated league like the SBC gives you an advantage that most teams don't have.
I am excited to see the improvements of Greg Williams and Jalen Dalcourt. If these two guys can grow off of the way they played down the stretch last year, good things can happen for us. Both of these guys played some high quality basketball at St. John's and San Jose State respectively.
I am really excited to see how special a kid like Chancellor White can be, I know it won't be this year consistently, but I could see this young man being the next really great player in a Cajun uniform. I think he will have his ups and downs this year, some really good games coupled with a few clunkers, but I compare him to a guy like Bryce Washington (not in playing style), but a kid that will get better and better each year that he plays until when he leaves he is a guy we look back on and say, wow that kid was special.
I don’t think there are any plans to play Brown and Richards together unless Foul trouble on other guys makes it a necessity.
They played Brown and Lewis together so he did play with another "big". And Lewis was able to get some offensive boards because of being open on the backside due to the attention Brown got. It can be done.
I also think that White looks the part. He needs to play as much as he can now while Julien is out so he can develop now.
