The 60s and 70s graduates and some 80s are the core of the season ticket holders. We did not develop new fans to take our place. We had good support in those years. Tamarello , Stokely. Robertson.
This is it. Where were the people explaining why the Cajuns going to Hattiesburg for the first time since 2008 and renewing a rivalry from the 80s and 90s? Where were the story tellers? Half the people in legacy media hear are ancient. They've seen the battles. How did we not tap those resources, connect them with the content producers across social media and digital media, and churn out story after story about the connection between the two schools? Where was the archived footage of Mike Des limping around that football field in 2008 getting his teeth kicked in while dragging the dead carcass of a football team to the finish line? Where were the Favre/Delhomme stories? The archived footage from the 80s and 90s Stokely teams? It's just never going to occur to these people to learn our history and then relay it to the new fans they're trying to cultivate.
Believe it or not, we've actually been in touch with a couple of them. Much more pro-RR than you might think. I think the new hires just walked into a situation that they had no idea how bad it was. And they're learning this environment. Maybe even some culture shock. We are paying for the total failure to handle hiring and promotion since the last snap of the football season, and the dysfunction of the RCAF.
Now, I did tell the ones we've talked to, we'd be fair. But we'd be critical when necessary. This entire season has been completely unacceptable from a marketing, merchandising, promoting and messaging standpoint. That's not even debatable.
