Thread: Marketing & Digital

  1. Default Re: Marketing & Digital

I wish I had a solution. Back in the late 80's, early 90's we had little to no national exposure other than an upset win vs A&M at Cajun Field yet my memory is the stands being quite a bit more full than what we've seen in recent year. Perhaps, getting some big name schools to come play us in the Swamp. But yah, damn embarassing to see how empty the stands are on national tv. Need to figure out what the JMUs, Libertys, Coastals and App States are doing and try to replicate. They don't seem to have the same lethargic fan base.

We prob have too much culture around here. Too many options for entertainment dollars when your team is not doing so well. Idk

Where’s Waldo? I’m in that picture! Was not a student, but was only a couple years removed from being a student. Someone talked me into joining the student section, front row, one more time.

Note for BWK: Jerry Babb is not shown in this picture hahahahahaha

I think the biggest problem is that admin thought that the Lafayette area would react to Des’s hire just like the football team did. Lots of cheering, gathering around him, etc.

Guess what…they didn’t. In fact, the Des hire by itself, regardless of any wins and losses, had a negative impact on attendance because it wasn’t paired with a good (or maybe any) marketing strategy.

One thing to note, during this time frame a student could buy up to six escort tickets.

That’s me in the front row on the rail behind #13 for FIU wearing the #16 Cajuns jersey.

That was when we had to get there 45 minutes before kickoff in order to reserve our spots.

There has been way to many people that I have talked to in the last couple of days that had no idea we had a home game this past weekend.

With that said, no one that I talked to would have attended the game anyway but it just speaks to the topic at hand.

I text a buddy the week of the Southern Miss game to ask if he wanted to hit up Pete’s or Mid City to watch the game. His response, “oh I’ve got plans that night. I thought the game was next Thursday.” This was an RCAF member and season ticket holder up until this year. The fanbase is completely checked out, and this administration does not care to know why.
