One group of locals travelled from Abbeville through Lafayette on Good Friday, causing passersby to look twice.
It is not every day that you see a group of people walking down the street carrying a cross and praying the rosary.
For these locals, it is a 15-year tradition brought from New Orleans to Acadiana.
Their goal is to honor Good Friday because as leader David Yarborough says, many people do not remember the importance of the day:
"They forget what Good Friday is-- it's good because He died for our sins today, and we need to reflect on that and walk in suffering and sacrifice with him so we can be prepared for what's great on Sunday."
During the all-day "Novena Church Walk," the people pray the rosary individually while walking, and stop at churches along the way to remember the Stations of the Cross.
The group passes through several towns spanning from Abbeville to Lafayette, and includes people of all ages-- even teenagers, like David's daughter.
"I think for kids my age sometimes it's kind of boring, but if you really listen to the Mass it really isn't as boring," says 15-year-old Hollis Yarborough.
By the end of the day the group usually has over 100 people, and they hope to recruit more each year.
