Thread: Post Game Observations

I feel like Dez goes for it on 4th down early in the game when we could get 3 points. We have a decent FG kicker and we’re not very good on 4th down. Going for it on 4th down when you’re in FG range should be done when you are running out of time and need a TD or you have confidence that your O line can get the push to get the first. jMO

First missed xp, 40 yard fg, and then next td would have kicked xp instead of going for 2. It would have been 29-22 in the 3rd instead of 29-17. And not catching punts hurt us. Kick off out of bounds late. Penalty’s on kickoffs. Special teams was bad other than the xp block and return. Plenty of mistakes through out. But basic plays on ST would have been a whole different ball game.

Wrs are getting behind safeties probably because unlike us other teams have running games. They have to account for that along with poor tackling among our defensive line and linebackers.

John Fox going for 2XP in the 3rd cost Jake Delhomme a Super Bowl.

Going for it on 4th "early" should be reserved for an area of the field just out of FG range but where you are comfortable with your defense taking over.

Always take the small points early.
Reserve the scared money spending for when the game is on the line.

Let’s not forget once again, minor but important, we had ANOTHER kickoff go out of bounds.

Something else that cost Jake Delhomme a Super Bowl title.

How many is that this year?

they need to do something about the refs, for helmet to helmets and hitting our qb in a slide and not ejecting the usm player throwing a punch is unacceptable every time usm had a running play for positive yards it was caused by a huge hold in the middle. these refs do it over and over and dictate flow and outcomes of games. if the sun belt doesn't see this then they are dictating who the winners and losers are in this league

I wonder how many football philosophy conversations Mike Desormeaux and Will Hall had in 2017?

  9. Default Re: Post Game Observations

Will Hall earned his stripes as a head player, conference champion head coach, offensive coordinator at 3 locations. That’s a lot of time learning.

Teams were 2 for 11 on fourth down going into this game against USM. Knowing that, it seems like we would have opted to punt or kick field goals more frequently.
