Thread: Post Game Observations

Another huge play, possibly the biggest in the game. Garror not catching that punt. From the 1 we get a safety, which I knew we would just thought it would be a holding call. Then give them a short field after with momentum. They score a TD on that drive. That’s 9 points they don’t score if we catch the punt.

I think losing Johnson & Bailey hurt us the most. I know the line is young, but we don’t seem to have anyone right now that is either strong enough or shifty enough to at least get 2 or 3 yards consistently when needed. Hopefully we can pick up a back like that for next year. And improve the O line. I think last night just about did us in for this season.

We looked like a team that replaced most of its line, 2/3 backs, a record setting QB and a SEC coach. The previous two games tricked us into thinking the climb out of that hole was done. It clearly is not.

We talked about this in the game thread. If he tries to catch, he more than likely fumbles it. There were literally 4 guys surrounding him by the time he had the chance to catch the ball. You let the ball bounce in the situation

What??? You can fair catch with 11 guys around you. If they get too close to let you catch it or they touch you it’s a penalty. So who cares where the defense is if you are fair catching the ball??

Agree...we don't have a back like Gore. Losing Bailey and Johnson hurts. Our current RBs don't break tackles or make people miss. TW just runs into tacklers. Of all the backs I've seen so far, D Washington appears to be the most talented and complete RB, but he's still looks too anxious and not patient enough runner...yet.

100%....the cover team has to give you room to catch the punt. I returned punts in HS and I can't believe how poorly a lot of guys are in fielding punts. Even the short or line drives, you can sprint to the ball waving for a fair catch and pull off last minute if you don't think you can make the catch. I see it all the time. In the play discussed above, Garror could have potentially run into one of the defenders while waving for a fair catch and that would have been a 15 yard penalty.

I just watched the replay. The ball actually bounced at the 20. Garror stood at the 10 and decided not to catch it off the bounce. So he could have caught it at the 20!!! Wow!! Even a worse play.

He does a great job catching the ball....which is paramount with a punt returner. But, sometimes when the wind is blowing, it can be very difficult and you have to have confidence to make that catch. I don't think he lacks confidence and I don't think wind was an issue last night, but that was not a good decision to not make the effort to field that punt.

I'm turning KPEL off for the last time. I'm officially done with this bull____.

You mean the female host in the morning has a college degree?

Last punt of the game same thing. He let it bounce at the 26 and decided not to grab it off the bounce. Cost us 10 yards again.
