Thread: MBB: Louisiana Tabbed As SBC Favorites

  1. Poll MBB: Louisiana Tabbed As SBC Favorites

Louisiana is the preseason favorite to capture the 2022-23 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball title, as determined by a vote of the league's 14 head coaches. The Ragin' Cajuns' Jordan Brown was chosen as the 2022-23 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year. The Sun Belt also announced its Preseason All-Conference Teams on Monday.

Well of course. We have the all time SBC victory coach, a couple legacy players and terrific fans who will make it hellish for the opponents. We also got a few extra practice games to help early chemistry.

Look if you’re going to smack talk the program, at least get it right. We don’t play in a gym. We play in a cavernous arena.

So, back to basketball. This was a surprise. It’s a preseason poll, but there are some people optimistic about this program. I don’t know if I’m one, but some people

Pre season polls are meaningless. They generally just indicate who has the most people back. We lost one starter (Awkuba), one part time starter (Wesley), and will not have one of our best players (Julien) available until mid December. I guess that is still a better situation than some schools find themselves in. I have not looked at all the predictions or the rosters of the other teams. I do know South Alabama and Georgia State always load up with talented transfers. Scott Cross will always put a well coached team on the court at Troy and ULM will over achieve due to Coach Richard. We handled USM easily last year and Ark State lost the best player in the league to the portal. In the east, the schools coming in do value basketball so I would not be surprised to see one of those teams compete for the title. In summary, the first place prediction may be a little optimistic, but I don't think we will be as poor as some of you here believe.

Note this poll came out due to basketball media days occurring tomorrow and Wednesday in New Orleans. Women are featured tomorrow and men on Wednesday. Brandi Williams is the Cajun WBB player rep and Jordan Brown will represent our men.

CM said no Julian until mid December. That’s not going to be a great impact on conference play except chemistry. Assuming he’s very healthy then.
