These nostalgia bands live off of just that. I saw Journey at the Houston rodeo this year with Asian Steve Perry. Had a blast, sang along with all the classics. Are they great? Meh, he sounds kinda like Steve Perry, but he ain't Steve Perry. I still had fun. Which is, after all, the point.

I have no problem with people enjoying their favorite bands. For me and many others part of that nostalgia is the original band members you learn to love. That is how their brand became relevant in the music industry. And paying premium prices to see a few of the original members is simply not worth the price of admission.

I can see that. I just do like I do for any entertainment. Is the enjoyment going to match the cost? I would have paid more theoretically to see Steve Perry….what I paid was fair for Steve Perry light.

Music can also be in the eye of the beholder . . . That is why these bands can continue to command those ticket prices regardless of the personnel actually staring in the show . .

I actually agree with you that Toto, the band, doesn't live up to Toto the reputation. But Africa holds up. Reminds me of my childhood and now my kids sing that dang song full force. It's a banger.

….lIf you guys ever want to hear a great album, get the old 1957ish “Ray Charles at Newport”…….after hearing and digesting it, go digest the food at Dookie Chases’ in NO! I got a quick see through of the restaurant and other areas where the NO musicians would gather after gigs till 4-5 in the AM…….

LMAO!!!! A good friend who learned of my "love" of "Bread" in a Friday PM BS session about the worst band ever at work gave me the "The Best of Bread" CD when I retired. I saved it and returned to sender, never opened, when he retired. Like the clap, the gift that kept on giving.

Many of the bands you listed started before the disco era. I'm on board with you on those.

My point being, the music is written and the musician plays it. If the musician is any good you should enjoy it either way. The musician playing it should make no difference.

There are some bands I’d paid to see the replacement (upgrades in some situations). Drummer Todd Sucherman with Styx as example. One of the best drummers in the world.
