Thread: UL Footprint

  1. Alumni UL Footprint

Sirius Radio, AM FM radio, Streaming radio:

JMU just announced they had secured a Sirius channel ( my long time wish for UL).

    What’s y’all thought about it.

Ultimately I believe the absolute best thing is AM FM radio coverage throughout your recruiting footprint. It’s absolutely available in vehicles, portable, and home sets. Biggest drawback is our current coverage is weak beyond belief. Biggest hurdle cost.

Sirius requires subscription and cloudless days. Pretty good if you have it

Streaming is almost as available as AM FM and very inexpensive for the university to provide with the advantage of worldwide coverage.

Should we be moving towards a Sirius channel, bigger AMFM footprint, or streaming? In all three I believe we need way more UL based programming. Athletics, the arts, academic progress and programs.

Cajun Fun had UL Today which focused on what’s happening now. I can visualize streaming being something that the university can justify the expense. It could use the school of broadcasting, and journalism to provide students with experience and opportunities towards their majors.

Streaming is the answer to your question.

Agree about streaming. That’s the way to go. Sirius is on the way out in vehicles.

Actually, we have had Sirius for many years and ours has never been affected by weather. It is also great for traveling in sparsely populated areas like in the west. I hate the charges though. I use Android radio and (free) Spotify in my pickup but my wife still prefers Sirius in her car. The good thing is if you try and cancel, they usually offer cheap deals, (we recently were offered $99.00 for 3 years)

Apple Carplay (or equivalent) is killing satellite radio. Unless your cell coverage is bad, why pay for a service when can just plug in your phone and play whatever free service you want. Pandora is a staple in my truck.

On that note, we already have streaming for all games through various apps.

I hope not. It is awesome. Streaming sucks.

Thanks for the Sirius info; I pay for my wife's subscription and she only uses it occasionaly. I have considered dropping it for that reason. $100 a year is much better than $240ish.
