How can you execute what you don't attempt? And the ask being put on these guys is almost impossible to execute. Very few linemen in the NFL can do the type of blocking the coaches are requiring these guys perform. And if they were SEC linemen trying to perform the same blocking schemes against SEC defenses they would be getting the same crappy results. That's why it doesn't matter who substitutes for whom. A good coach should have injected enough knowledge into his line by now to be able to make adjustments, but they can't make them, or are being told to continue the impossible. THEY ARE BEING COACHED TO FAIL. It's that simple.

Disagree BWK. If the OL Coach was truly awful, we would have seen zero improvement with the group over the season, which is not the case.

Dude may or may not know OL play, but to say that group is awful is an over reach...Hard to tell watching straight line scrimmage TV to see what's going on...the secret to good OLine play is that all 5 (or 6 with TE) have to be in sync. Learning combo blocks is not as easy as it looks, and when you're up upgainst a stingy run defense...If you noticed, we rushed 30 yards (I think I'm right) above the average they've been giving up. Chris Smith would have eaten them alive bouncing to the outside...

What improvement? Our backs are getting smashed at the LOS. The only "improvement" in our running game is we have a beast at the QB position who is willing himself to first downs to move the chains. We are still dealing with DEs who break our OTs down way too easily which another case of learning proper technique in pass rush. But I didn't want to even go there until they fix the running game which is a steaming pile of dung.

The same OL coach from last year's 13-1 team and Top 25 team. He's working with less talent at this point.

If that is the narrative you want to sell yourself then have a nice time believing it. I'm telling you this scheme is pure dog crap. It is making these linemen look worse than they are as individuals & as a unit. And if I can see that. There is no freaking way, a decent coach who has a film room at his disposal can't see it. But hey, if you love the guy whoever he is then love the guy. We're just never gonna be able to run the ball doing what we're doing.

Mmmmm? Reckon why Billy didn't steal him & take him with him if he was that great. I mean Billy robbed the kitchen blind didn't he? And I seem to remember people complaining about our under performing with all the talent we had on the line & at RB last season.

You know what. You've shown me the light. Let's just keep everything the same exact way running the same exact garbage. Then we can all go get beer together & laugh about the 2.2 YPC average of the team.

Well maybe cause Rob Sale was available. Just a wild guess.

Yeah, we lost a couple of good ones, but there are still some very strong men on that OL. It's not like we have a bunch of slobs or sloths. They should have found a couple of plays they can rely on by now.

    Sale? I'm sold.

Seriously, I do have distinct memories of NFL coaches (whose personel changed) stating they were going to have to simplify their scheme if they ever hoped to get any better.

This group is not going to get much better together. I'm not suggesting that they cannot improve on what they have been asked to execute. There is simply more upside in Gillie, Thomas and Harrington going forward. The other two starters are simply as good as they are going to get at this point as seniors.

I don't think facts matter to some people, as much as opinions.
