I don't care what anyone says, there was not a coaching search. They went for Des from the get-go. Now, I Love all the Cajun Connections and truly wish he can succeed (yet to be determined). What burns a lot of people including myself, is that this is the type of thing you do after you fire a losing coach. You experiment a bit, you take a chance on someone who has very little experience out in the FBS scene, who has not really learned what other institutions and staffs are successful at (not just 1-Napier). Here, at this moment in time, we were ranked in the top 20, on top of highest successful peak in our history. I would think, that would draw someone with proven experience, and reduce the risks to your program by getting a recognizable name in the FBS world. That's the difference in my eyes. Dr. Maggard went the risky route, the start all over route. The learning staff route. Do we have time for this in this current college upheaval? We will find out the hard way. Meanwhile, Geaux Cajuns.
So here's my issue. You are using Billy as the only example Des has. That would be fine if he patterned himself after the example. SO far, all I've seen is one example after another of how they are doing things differently than Billy did them. That has led to the regression of the team. So don't blame Napier for this mess. And to those who don't think it's a mess. It won't be amess if they go to Marshall tonight & win.
What did maggard say? Was one of the reason he hired Des because he worked for Napier and was expected to do (some) things a certain way? And if so did Des break an agreement, or did Maggard lie?
Or did Maggard want the “rebuild” and cited that for the hire?
