I think we're all guilty of sticking to our guns a little too long sometimes. But it's easy to crucify a guy when things aren't going well and the reasons were prewritten. The power of suggestion is strong.

I'll choose to let it play out and try to understand why things are happening the way that they are on the field, in this case. I feel like we owe it as a fan base to Mike. If it tanks, it tanks. There was never any guarantee with any hire that we were going to make. He's one of us, and the upside is tremendous. And truthfully, at the end of the day, I think he will win here.

Listen to Dre's answer when I asked him this specifically. He said they are motivated to play hard for Des because they love the man and don't want to let him down. They played hard for Billy because it was expected and if you didn't, you weren't playing on Saturday's.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Will it work out? We'll see. But coaches have been successful with many different management styles. Our culture just prefers the Ole Ball Coach style.

I heard what Andre said and I’m sure in his mind they are playing hard for Des. Over all in football I’m with KK there has been a bigger sample size of success when a player respects his coach but doesn’t necessarily like him and is afraid to F_____ up. Just take a look at all the all time greats Hays, Schembechler, Osborne, Sabine, Spurrier, Holts,.......Don’t fool yourself on Sweeney he might be the best mix of the 2 styles there is.

Having said that I see mike as one that learns from his mistakes and will make major changes in he off season.

A "players" coach, Josh Heupel, just took the Tennessee Vols into BR and SPANKED a "disciplinarian" in Brian Kelly.

Again, what matters is the fit. Does Mike's style fit the roster that we have and the roster that he's building. BK is a perfect example of how the different styles only matter if the fit is right.

Josh Heupel is somewhere in the middle. Players love him like a dad and when it’s time to be a dad he acts like one. You can be both a players coach and a disciplinarian. Players respect that and it’s what makes a man, a man.

For some context...

Can you break that list down to which were assistants promoted from within where they really were “friend” and then got promoted to boss on the same team? Not as easy of a transition as one would think. Totally different dynamics. IMO.

Mike was a disciplinarian as a player.

He has a transition method. Chill.

From everything I have heard he was a real hard @$$ SOB when he coached high school too. This 180 has many who have known him long term puzzled.

If one listens with a clear mind, this is what you heard. If not, it’s the agenda spewed above that was heard.

Go listen to the pod cast with Craig and Chris Lanaux former teammate of Mike. You have to listen until the end. Chris must be one of the “ agenda” guys as you put it, because he said the exact same stuff, you accuse guys with an “agenda” of saying.

With the transfer portal, I’m thinking hard-nosed coaching will probably be diminished across the board. Even Tom Coughlin mellowed out at the behest of his veterans in the locker room.

So you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. If you go soft you will lose. If you let the prisoners run the asylum you’ll definitely fail. Any coach that coaches afraid that kids will transfer won’t be coaching for long. Run your program how you see fit if they don’t like it let them go.

We know what Maggard said about CMD. The truth is that the coaching universe changed just before the hire. NIL, Transfer Portal,came out like a speeding locomotive. Adding to that CBN decision to transfer the entire Louisiana football structure to Florida.

CMD didn’t inherit the program he said yes to. He’ll never say that, but it’s still true. IMO he may have underestimated the NIL, and TP impact. Add to that key injuries to projected OL starters.

He may also be learning that there’s very few people who can have self discipline, especially at such a young age.
