Here's a picture I took, 10 years ago today, of the fans in the stands for the UL - Tulane game. What a difference 10 years makes.

I‘m pretty sure I’m somewhere in those stands lol. Man do I wish we could have that kind of support today.
This is depressing.
sure did run off a lot of fans. and this is before things were 'good'
What's not different? Same ole 2nd deck, should have been replaced back then.
Tulane is a decent in state opponent and will always draw a crowd. Just like App state did and Coastal would as they are good conference games.
La Tech at Cajun Field would draw a crowd as well.
Not necessarily in order of importance and effect:
1. Downfall in oilfield
2. Covid - people just don’t want to assimilate like they did before Covid
3. 80’ TV’s in the comfort of homes and access to all football games going on (more so being able to monitor all other games going on as opposed to having the Cajun games on TV at home)
4. Cost and restrictions on tailgating has made tailgating just not as fun as it had reached in the prime time.
5. Costs vs Value of in game experience.
6. Weekday games eroding the number of tailgaters and the whole tailgating experience.
7. Many more companies no longer see the value of the football game marketing experience thus all the employees required to go to games are no longer required and customers drawn to Cajun Field because of the event is just not there.
8. Diehards from back then are much older now and more willing to gravitate towards the ease and safety of doing it at home.
9. 10 years created a gap in age groups from the old die hards and the new ones.
10. Crime has resulted in a much greater part of the population just enjoying things at home (not that crime exposure is any greater at Cajun Field but more so in just getting out)
11. Just as quick as people will use the ignore button here, that same concept will enter into just watching at home
12. Social media complaints create negative vibe to total fan experience
13. Long lines, long lines, long lines
Just on RP one could probably extend this list to 20 . . .
Blackout.
I remember when if the Saints didn't sell a determined number of tix. Blackout. No signal within a radius of the SD.
Obviously there is nothing like this in NCAA rules so I have no idea. And of course the SBC tv contract.
What doesn't make since though is that with endless people becoming Alumni 2-3 times per year, how is it the crowd never really changes.
Who the F doesn't come to their alma mater Football Program on Saturday afternoons and nights to drink Cold Beer and see some F'n Cajuns Football.
