👍 not sure if this comes out but it’s a thumbs up!
I talk to folks every day in and around the acadiana area that claim they are sports fans of the Cajuns. 75% of those folks have no clue that the Cajuns have been ranked in the top 20 for the last two seasons, no clue about the longest win streak in the nation, or no clue most of the time when or who they are even playing. Marketing, game day experience, facilities improvements, and scheduling must improve to draw bigger crowds.
I hear what you’re saying and agree with most of what you have written. For the casual fan I think it’s just about an outing with the family. After the game I saw a family with kids and they were on the back of the pick up truck changing diapers. We just need to find an easy way for the casual fans to participate. I don’t have the answer but may be others do. Geaux Cajuns!
It really is unacceptable how we have marketed this team to the community. It is unprecedented what has been accomplished the last few years and we did not take advantage of it. That is what frustrates me the most. Only one other team in this state has EVER had consecutive top 20 seasons.
We can’t even get people to realize what they have right here in their backyard. I really just don't get the apathy and to be honest I’m just at a point where I’m tired of trying to figure it out.
I just want to enjoy our success, no matter how many casual fans we capture going forward. It’s not my job to worry about or convince people what they should care about.
Back to the game...
The OL is the huge concern, our QB situation however is not a concern to me. I think Fields is very capable and has an excellent arm. I think we killed the momentum by changing out qb’s but it’s also good to get Wooldridge in game reps while we can, could pay off down the road. Great to see the TE’s being utilized in the passing game! This game could have been much closer but a win is a win and the streak continues!
While that call can technically be made, I have never seen anyone be called for it in my life. And they have massively adjusted all of the rules to allow for more grounding than ever. And I can tell you why it is never called. It is assumed once the defense jumps off sides, the offense is granted a free play on the defense. Fields could have run backwards out lf the end zone & that wouldn't have been called a safety. Unless there is a flagrant foul by the offense of a personal nature such as a holding call, personal foul, crack back block, etc. They never call a grounding call & I've seen the ball grounded at least two dozen times in that instance.
So after reading most of the thread after returning from the game here's my take as a fan. I thought fan turn out was good considering the rain didn't let up until kick off. The student section was better than I expected under the circumstances stated above. I thought our running backs did a good job the three headed monster worked well. We have to do a better job of knowing whom we need to give the ball too in short yardage. Chandler did a good job of keeping his eyes down field most of the time but on a couple of plays he decided to run when he had wide open recievers in his view. We will have problems passing from the pocket when we play bigger defensive lines. The receivers did woolridge no favors on one of his drives dropping two easy catches. Defense was flying to the ball all night. On the punt return for td we got away with a blantant holding that wasn't called. It was great to see the TE used last night in the passing game. Overall good first game CMD and staff will work out the kinks that's their job not mine. I don't mind playing a second QB in real situations in a game you should easily win. I think the team knows Chandler is the starter and giving Woolridge quality reps last night will only help if Chandler goes down. JMO
What I saw was a typical first game. Most logical thinkers knew the offense would take some time to work things out. Unfortunately, it worked in reverse. They started strong and then slowed down. Curious to know if coach will truly open up the passing game in the future because it was anything but open last night. We did not take advantage of our deep threats. I did like the use of the TE's more and hope that will continue. OL was pretty bad but I think we knew they'd need time and hopefully no injuries. Same old interior running game as well. Defensively, we run a really small group out there so my concern is consistently stopping the running game going forward.
Right on. It’s just so baffling. It is not like you’re trying to sell people on a losing team. We’re winning more than ever before and you’d never know it around the community.
I share the same sentiment. Trying to not get mad at something I can’t control. I wear the gear, I donate, I buy tickets and I show up. My part is done. The university needs to do better.
Regarding Chandler taking a seat a few series, I’d agree with you IF he was seasoned. It was his first start and while we were in control, the game certainly was still in reach for the Lions.
IMO Chandler needs all the reps he can get this early in the year. With my opinion known, I’ll return to my couch with my bowl of chips on my lap.
