What I remember most of SLU days in 60s was that Coach Russ F could not beat the Lions coached by Stan G. 0 wins. Even with Boomer kicking.

Considering our official name is Southeastern Louisiana University, SLU is the correct abbreviation. To answer your question, it should be used everywhere when abbreviating. Of course, it's a free country and we've been called everything from SELU to SLU to SEL, SELOU to Southeast. But we've been SLU since 1970. Administration discouraged usage of SLU for about a 10-15 year period, wanting to brand simply as Southeastern. But we've gone back to SLU for athletics branding the last several years.
We had a good run under Galloway. Slipped into an abyss for a decade after he retired but revived under Billy Brewer. Billy left for La Tech (eventually Ole Miss) and we started off the Oscar Lofton era with a bang in 1980 and 1981. But the state budget went bust, we suffered severe cutbacks and our president was hostile to athletics. We foolishly dropped football after the '85 season, which set our athletics program back two decades. We've since recovered, but it was miserable around these parts for years from an athletics standpoint.
Lots of buds went to SLU. One of my buds/classmate taught many years there in Business School. Even had me lecture to his class. Great students. During 80s.
Dave heard you say mention the Scelfo press conference a couple of times where did you find it posted? Can you provide a link? Thanks

Well I’ve got a real reason to hate SLU, and it has zero to do with name, letters, and on field games. It’s about basketball and how they tried every which way to force Louisiana to remain segregated in athletics. That’s enough.
As for our name? The same revised anti UL law that allows SLU to not use @ allows us use of Louisiana. If he doesn’t know what I’m talking about it’s on him to educate himself to not play the fool.
