Thread: UL Football not holding anything back vs. SLU in season opener

  1. UL Football UL Football not holding anything back vs. SLU in season opener

It’s here! Finally, it’s game week!

All the blood, sweat and tears put forth during the summer, gets put to use, this Saturday.

That’s when SLU comes to Cajun Field for the 2022 season opener.

No reason to have a vanilla playbook this year anyway with so many new starters/players getting experience, and with the next 2 weeks being EMU and Rice. If we hold back to sneak up on those teams, our program is not in the place we think it is. If FSU was week 2, then yes keep it very vanilla.

Bingo! Blow the doors off of every single team we can.

Keeping the defense fresh was a HUGE part of Napier's stragegy.

If the offense is intent on scoring quick and often, be prepared to see the defense take a step back.

Giving up more ppg on defense doesn’t necessarily mean that it took a step back.

I expect our offensive output to increase by 7 ppg this season. Our defense will probably give up 3 more ppg as a result.

But the key will be 3rd down and red zone defense. Can we improve there. If we do then we will be really hard to beat.

But DL and Db are the deepest units on this team that you can easily rotate players in and out.

3rd down is where I desperately want to see improvements. This seems to be an issue year in and year out. Giving up big plays on 3rd and long.
