All of the responses are fine, but that should be even more reason to have media sunshine pumpers.
The goal is to be the highest ranked G5 program at the end of the year. Why start from behind if you don't have to. Not receiving votes creates a higher mountain to climb.
Hypothetical situation:
UL goes undefeated, we are so far back in the preseason rankings, we can't catch up to other G5 schools with a potential "good P5 loss".
The goal should be a New Years Six Bowl game.
After the last four years success, it is time we have expectations to compete as a Top 25 team with NY6 expectations, just like Cincinnati and UCF.
Geaux is right.
Start ranked, stay noticed, climb.
Last 7 G5 NY6 reps...
2021 Cincy --- 2 P5 wins, 2 wins over Top 25
2020 Cincy --- 3 wins over Top 25
2019 Memphis --- 1 P5 win, 3 wins over Top 25
2018 UCF --- 1 P5 win, 1 win over Top 25
2017 UCF --- 1 P5 win, 2 wins over Top 25
2016 Western Mich --- 2 P5 wins
2015 Houston --- 2 P5 wins, 3 wins over Top 25
The trend is having multiple Top 25 wins. If you don't have them in your conference, your best bet is to schedule them in your non-conference.
NOBODY is running the table in a G5 without multiple P5/Top 25 wins and going to a NY 6 Bowl.
