Thread: Summer of 2022: Unprecedented media silence

  1. Default Re: Unprecedented media silence

Casual fans won’t hunt for podcasts and such. Casual fans and students are the markets so untapped. If we keep USL’ing it, the future isn’t bright.

Lots of Rogan fans in here. Would be interesting what they thought about this last comment. This ain’t Capitol Hill buddy. It’s G5 football. Podcasters, in many cases, are more suited for interviews with the teams they follow than FM/AM morning drive guy.

Louisiana's media relations dept. clearly has one foot in the past and one foot in the future while failing to grasp the present.

    DING DING DING!!!!!! THIS.

Plus if you give access to one fan then you open up Pandora’s box and you’ll have to give access to all fans. “By the fans for the fans” Where would you draw the line. If I call for access to mike will they grant it?

As far as media… Another example of communication department ____ery: We talked to Des a couple weeks after the bowl game. Said he’d love to come onto Ragin Review and talk about the program and his experiences since being hired. We’ve talked 2 times since then about it. He’s ready to do it.

Since that first convo, we’ve approached Brunner, Nico, et al about it. Can’t even get a response. Not even a GD email. HOWEVER, they have Mike going on some obscure podcast from some dude in Texas.

Guess the “policy” doesn’t stretch out to Texas… FOH
    Get Gerry to call Maggard.

Apparently you haven't listened to any of the RR pods. The list of guest are impressive.

Nope. Only know the reputation from here on RP. I have heard one or 2 but don’t recall guest. I know the slogan is by the fans for the fans. I am sure the University doesn’t see that as legitimate media in which to send their coaches to be interviewed. I did listen to Jay and coach last night and found that to be very good and informative.

I've listened to every single RR episode published to Pod and MAT has been nothing but respectful to any guest they have had on.

MAT, Gerry, Nick and even Miguez have all treated guess like first class folks.

Maybe you should listen before knocking them and agreeing with others folks who never listen to them.

Hey look I am sure it is a very good pod cast done by a few armature fans. Great for them. I don’t think our D1 football coach needs to be going on a fans PodCast. That would look like very small timing things. Our coach needs to stick to real credentialed media like the big time programs do.

I was credentialed radio media for 20+ years, and credentialed internet media for 8 years after that.

Then during the David Walker/Scott Farmer era non real names became an excuse to pull credentials.

The humor in that stance was and still is the fact that not one of the people I worked with in radio throughout the 1980s and 1990s used their real name.
