Thread: Summer Grads

  1. Alumni Summer Grads

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette conferred 311 degrees during its Summer 2022 Commencement on Friday at the Cajundome, marking the end of an exceptional academic year.

Louisiana awarded 181 bachelor’s degrees, 107 master’s degrees, 17 doctoral degrees and six graduate certificates, the final additions to a total of 3,382 degrees received by the fall, spring and summer graduating classes.

Among that total were a record 740 master’s degrees – the most in a single academic year – and 68 doctoral degrees – the second most in an academic year. In addition, 40 students earned undergraduate degrees with perfect 4.0 GPAs – tying a record set last year.

Louisiana also awarded more degrees to students of Asian and Hispanic descent than in any other year in our history.

Summer 2022 graduates represent 38 Louisiana parishes; 26 states and U.S. territories; and 17 countries.

“Each of you faced tests inside the classroom and you confronted extraordinary challenges outside the classroom as well – and you overcame them all. And that same sense of resolve is going to serve you well in the years to come,” said University of Louisiana at Lafayette president Dr. Joseph Savoie.

“But if you ever reach a milepost of doubt on the road ahead, look at your diploma. Remember the sense of pride that you feel today and let it inspire you to remain steady and sure as you move forward,” Savoie added.

Dr. Phil Auter, a professor in Louisiana’s Department of Communication, was the Commencement speaker. He is president of the University’s Faculty Senate.

Auter was honored with an Eminent Faculty Award from the UL Lafayette Foundation earlier this year.

He encouraged graduates to “be bold with your actions, and take chances when opportunities come your way.”

“And going forward, there will be lots of opportunities,” Auter added.

Finally the University understands RaginPagin. It's very own 311 system

Basically, 311 is a type of citizens’ hotline. It’s a simple way for you to report problems or ask questions about your community without tying up emergency lines or going through frustrating municipal channels

I tried dialing 311 and the recording said no credentials

    Nice

That's fairly representative of the student body to athlete ratio

Congratulations to the athletes listed below:

    Zion Hill Green
    Chris Smith
    Bralen Trahan
    Kris Moncrief
    Trajan Wesley
    Bobby Lada
    Charlie Flynn
    Catarina Zheng

They were part of the summer graduation group. I know the first four are football players. All of them are also team leaders. Not surprised they have finished their degrees. Looking forward to watching all of them on the field in a few weeks as they all return for 2022. Wesley is a former basketball player who has transferred out while Bobby Lada is a baseball guy of course. Not sure what sport the last 2 athletes participated in. Accomplishments of all listed need to be celebrated. I am always proud to be a Cajun fan when I see lists like this.

See also athletes can go free for more than 8 semesters…(.whereas those on academic scholarship are limited to just 8). if on an academic scholarship why “waste” one of those 8 semesters on summer when you get more bang for your buck in fall or spring… 6 or 9 hours vs 18 or 21?

same goes for paying students, plus add in factor easier to pick up summer jobs and can usually make more money in summer jobs than fall/winter jobs

Full cost of attendance for football and basketball players makes it less of a need to get summer jobs these days. Also, both sports now prefer their players to be available for workouts during the summer.

How does the ncaa monitor to ensure these so called “summer workouts” dont accidentally lead into/ become practice illegal sessions?
