Of course he is missing the picture. How can you expect someone who never played any kind of sports in school to understand the need for a team building environment, especially with a new regime. And yes I know Des was here last year. But not as a head coach & many of his assistants are brand new as well. Of course if they get off to a less than stellar start, you can rest assured the koolaid drinkers will be the first ones to attack anyone who questions the methods which might have led to that underachievement. I'm not wishing for bad things. But these guys are still 18-20 somethings with a lot of raging hormones & ideas of having fun that most of them weren't allowed to do at home. I think any time you give your team a greater sense of family you strengthen their desire to play harder for each other.
I got a text this morning that was so ridiculous, I think I should say something here.
Any of you lazy “writers” for the rags in this town getting ready to make this a “story”, you should give up on the idea. This is the biggest non-issue thread.
Per people very, intimately familiar with the “decision” to let kids live off of campus: FB players that qualify academically have always ALWAYS been able to live off of campus. There is a narrative being shaped here and on social media that Mike is soft on the players and this was misconstrued as an example of that narrative. There are agendas at work here. Be very careful what you read.
