Indication were that 2020 was headed in that repeat direction but that wasn't the year I was referencing.

The season I was talking about Scott Farmer was head of the selection committee and came back with a seed lower than their national ranking.

Even though they had the #1 OOC RPI in the country.

I have met him, he is a good guy, except he likes to stir up traffic on his board by acting like he is promoting this ridiculous independent idea that has already failed miserably at UL.

You still harping on this 10 years later I see (2012 is the year).

Yes, #1 OOC RPI ranking (25-0 OOC), but the SOS in OOC play was ranked 44th overall. RPI was #11 overall. They played a total of 4 games against the RPI top 25. But #1 OOC RPI doesn't guarantee you anything. There's more to it than that, like the fact that we didn't even win the Sun Belt tournament.

They were correctly placed in the bracket that year.

The day UL goes independent in your fantasy world is the day I stop supporting them.

You obviously haven't thought this through.

I was asked a question and I answered.

The fact remains that the regular season of playing in the SBC for a conference championship removed opportunities to play better competition the rest of the way.

Your pointing out "They played a total of 4 games against the RPI top 25" proves my point. The SBC steals opportunities.

But being in a position to and having hosted a conference championship is not . . .

Now, we say "Come play for an SBC Championship".

As an Indy, we would say "Come play a P5 Schedule against the best, prove yourself, play for a National Championship".

I don't know about any of you, but nothing gets my juices going as a Cajun fan as much as playing against a P5. It's the essence of our "Respect" motif we've had for decades.

That is a plus, but how, many decades has it taken to get to this point?

In less than that alloted time the investment and work of being independant would have garnered a P5 invite.

I think you may be right crawfish! I met Turbine several years ago and he really is a good guy. But like many on social media, I'm sure he needs to continue getting clicks on this site in order for it to remain viable. This has to be what Turbine is doing because I refuse to admit that he is that ill informed to really believe going "independent" is the path to financial success for UL! I know Dr. Maggard is too smart of a man to pass up a sure financial wind fall for UL if that was actually the case.

Turbine, by making UL going independent your "bell cow" on this forum you really are smarter than I thought! That is a brilliant play my man!

As an independent they became extremely attractive to the Big 12.

Sometimes you need to step away to step back in.
Then why did they go back into a conference? If being independent was working, and would CONTINUE to work for them in the future, why stop being an independent? And if you need to "step out to step back in" you're admitting being in a conference is the ultimate goal.
