You said it right there. Student support. The big difference is Boone is the kinda place that isn’t close to home so you go to college and live there. Many probably don’t go home until thanksgiving break. UL is the kinda place kids don’t go to college they go to school. They live with mommy and daddy in places like New Iberia, abbeville, crowley, Breaux bridge, carencro, Opelousas, Rayne and parts in between. They drive to Lafayette Mon -Fri, park at Cajun field and get on the bus. When the weekend comes they not coming back to Lafayette. As a matter of fact the only time the ever see Cajun field as students is to park and catch the bus. Until the university learns how to connect and get that type of student involved and turn them into life long supporters we will continue to struggle. If we could just add the student support that App gets our crowds would improve drastically. Once you get the students you would probably also get more of their parents also.
I am curious to see the App UNC game. I have a suspicion that the reason for the quick sell out is that UNC big money purchased App season tickets in order to get that one game. Only time will tell and the amount of blue in the stadium will be proof.
App State caps season ticket sales at 11,000. They are sold out.
Let’s compare apples to apples.
If you to compare championship games they had no where near capacity for those. In 2019 the crowd was 18.5k. In 2018 they had 15k.
If you just want to compare largest crowds we put 41k into Cajun field and at the time it was a 31k seat stadium.
