My point is not about going to the game to hear the band. It is about what the band does to create an atmosphere that engages the fans. I am certainly not an LSU fan, but we have to admit that the atmosphere at an LSU game is among the best in the country. LSU fans, for example, would likely still fill Tiger Stadium without their band, but the electricity in that stadium without "Hold that Tiger" or "Hey Fighting Tigers" and the fans spelling out "TIGERS" and instead hearing only "another LSU first down" and "Respect", would totally change the atmosphere in that stadium. It is not just the play on the field that creates the excitement. It is the ability to engage the fans and create a fan interaction and investment in the end product. The successful programs with huge attendance and top game day atmosphere all have that in common. We don't. But, we can.

A packed house creates excitement. It has nothing to do with the band. The band contributes to the game interaction but if I want to see a band I'm not going to a football game. Just me maybe.

The stuff they play in br has been played for many years. You don't like Respect because why, it has been played for so long? Respect started back when I was in school and it was because we were trying to earn respect. But I really, really don't get this; people want traditions, but they don't want to hear the same old stuff.

So let's start with some solutions.

How's. about a band tradition where the game doesn't start till the band quits playing....

The fans boo and booo because the band won't quit.

Then when the band finally allows the. game to start (aka quit playing) they get a standing ovation...

Which of course motivates them to return for the next home gig. and on and on.

The band in BR keeps fans engaged, especially women.The POA has nothing like that, thus those same non-engaging tunes get stale very fast.

Engagement starts with the students and that's missing. Step 1 is to get them engaged and involved the minute the freshman step on campus. Do cheer/chant practice on Friday nights and have them involved in creating interaction with the band.

You guys don't get it. This is not a band thread. It is about creating an atmosphere at UL games that attracts people, keeps them engaged and invested in UL football and coming back. We don't have that like other schools do. Whatever we are doing isn't working and needs to be addressed.

Acadiana is a treasure trove of musical talent, invite artists to be a part of pregame....but ring that bell constantly 20 minutes, 30 minutes prior to pregame...signal somethings starting to happen, finish that beer and that BS story you've been telling and get into the stadium.

Have you ever heard the bell? I was once in an empty cajun field in the north end zone and the bell started to ring. I could barely hear it.
