Stanford would bring the San Francisco market, but this all depends upon how many programs the Big 10 wants to add. This recent move was motivated by the answers they received from the media consultants. Clearly, they are targeting the markets and programs that would bring them upwards of $100M per, in a new media package. Notre Dame is one of those schools they have on their short list. If Stanford and Cal Berkeley weren't identified by those consultants, they won't be looked at regardless of markets.
Doubt UCLA & USC want Oregon, Stanford or Washington to come with them. They can sell recruits on B10 membership much like TAMU did with SEC membership.
PAC is in a world of hurt right now. Media deal up next year, making it difficult to hold current ‘hot’ properties and/or attract new ones.
Honestly, B12 is probably the most stable as they don’t have any schools now that conferences absolutely covet. Odd turn of events.
I feel like we did the whole media market thing a few years back and it all back fired. Why are they doing that same song and dance now.
Also in regards to media rights, if that is the reason they went after LA, why would they bring in both LA schools. Wouldn’t that be like paying 2 for 1. If you have to pay both UCLA and USC to come
Over but they are only delivering 1 market, it doesn’t make much sense to me.
I always thought the same, but after learning some history behind the whole ordeal, if I were Notre Dame’s fans and administrators, I think I would reject the invite.
After all, it was the Big 10 along with Fielding Yost who spurned multiple attempts from Notre Dame joining many, many years ago. I grew up loathing their team because I never understood why they were chosen to have their own tv network. They didn’t choose it, it just developed and formed over the years from their hardened fanbase doing everything they could to remain relevant. I’d say that they’ve done very well for themselves being an independent after the prejudice they had to endure.
