I agree. The trick for these blue bloods is going to be figuring out how to funnel more money into their collectives.

For example, it wouldn’t surprise me if schools figure out a way to lease their stadiums to their collectives so the collectives can collect all the ticket and suite revenue.

maybe even build one or two dorm rooms in the facility so they can use state tax money earmarked for academics! maybe even raffle off the residence of those couple of rooms and of course naming rights to the rooms themselves

I think you have it backwards, the nfl will pluck guys mid season if they want.

Here’s what I don’t understand about some people freaking out about the NIL stuff. There is a zero sum game with money here, for the most part.

Imagine at a big school, some guy donates $1 million per year to the athletic department. Now, NIL comes up and he is asked to give $500K to NIL efforts. Is he still giving $1mln to the athletic department? Probably not.

I’m assuming that in most cases (not all) big donors are giving what they are going to give. So if it starts going to NIL, then it goes away from the athletic department.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m right. But one thing is for sure…pay careful attention to what happens to athletic budgets and ticket prices over the next few years.

Spot on analysis. Hence the need to broaden the base of RCAF donors, both large and small. Fortunately we're winning in football so there's opportunity for growth. Albeit we have a long way to go.

The next thing that will come is that they aren’t required to be academically eligible. They might not even need to be enrolled to play. When that happens they will be directly competing with the nfl and that hasn’t worked out too great for anyone.

Every player on even the worst NFL team is a pro. Even in the NIL era this won't be the case on a college team.

The rich dudes have been giving the same amount of money but under the table. Now they are just in the open about it.

No doubt players were getting paid under the table in the past, but no way was it at the current $$ amounts some of these guys are getting. So I am in BFH’s corner: I don’t see donors doubling their donations - although I could be wrong.
