Nice to be in the same boat. I was looking through my high school yearbook and saw your aunt. Is she still alive? I always liked her at OHS.

I love what the SBC has done recently and how the script on this conference has been flipped. I think the future is bright.

With that being said, if another conference such as the AAC were to come calling, I think UL has to make the jump strictly for financial reasons.

If my quick google search is correct, each AAC school receives $7 million per year from their tv deal. Each SBC school currently receives $500k per year. That number alone will boost the athletic department significantly. Plus any other conference money there is to be had. As a program that is struggling to put together funds, you have to follow the money in my opinion.

Only the legacy AAC programs get that deal. The CUSA6 will receive close to $2Mill in the AAC. Starting this Fall, all SBC schools will receive close to $2Mill.

ESPN is losing money hand over fist.

Right now (with no data) I would put the SBC near the top of their current best investments.

Wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for the info. That extra $1.5mil will be nice.

Once the AAC loses fee more programs I’m pretty sure the sunbelt will have even more negotiating power. ESPN ain’t going to pay that money if they lose a few more top teams.

This is why I say that we need to be extra picky when looking for new members. We will have more leverage very soon to lure an ECU, USF, Memphis or Tulane when the time comes.

No reason anymore to expand with lesser schools.

We already received $1.2M last year before the new media deal.

I’m somewhat concerned you putting Tulane into this group. Right now and for several years UTSA is a better program by market, fan in attendance, eyes on tv and production on the field. Granted Tulane seems to be getting somewhere, but this comes with an older coach whose had one outstanding year and multiple bad to mediocre years.
