What about all the ‘barns’ behind Blackham? Are they still in use today? I drove down Coliseum Rd yesterday and couldn’t help but think that they are about the only ‘eye-sore’ buildings left on campus. Would be nice if we could do something about that, even it’s not just tearing them all down.

Yep. My buddies and I have always said, if money was no object, best case scenario for basketball is a brand new 3,000 seat basketball-only arena right in that spot. New Blackham.

I agree we once had 31k on a Saturday in October against FIU and they brought no one. Got to make that the norm and not the exception. Hopefully new stadium with better amenities will get more people out to Cajun field. 35k minimum I would say for the occasional southern, type crowds.

Every January for livestock shows and rodeos and during homecoming for float building. That’s the only uses I know of for the barns.

I used to be in the crowd that believes 35K was the new minimum. Count me in the group that now thinks 30K maximum. Concur with no general admission seating in new upper deck as well. Really need to maximize lower deck seating and as already mentioned in this thread, amenities, amenities, amenities!! Needs to be a great experience people will want to return for.

Suggested that to someone involved with the dome years ago. Can’t, blocks the line of sight from the suites. Yes, people still use them for MBB, I check when I go.

Blows my mind that the city did such a major renovation of that arena and didn't include mid-level suites along the side court.

If anyone is still on the fence about what the capacity for Cajun Field should be, we just had the 2 most successful years in football history, and closed it out with the first ever Sunbelt championship game in Lafayette, with the chance to win our first outright conference title in 50 years. 31K. That game should have been 40+ no question. Afternoon kick. No other team in the state playing. If we can’t get break the attendance record for that, it will NEVER happen

This was in the original renovation plans, but it was eventually cut out due to costs. Maybe Turbine can dig up the old rendering.

The original rendering had a line of suites directly above the upper walkway.

"Afternoon kick" is a negative not a positive.

I have been saying this for decades; "This isn't Nebraska" Louisiana Saturday Nights is the only tradition that has a chance.

Anything else is an attendance zap.

On a personal level I have worked almost every saturDAY for 40 years.

I spent the better part of 15 years all by myself trying to make this point on this damn site. Lower capacity is better for so many reasons. And I kept yelling about it as Farmer wasted millions building more seats in the south end zone for fans that didn’t exist.

Anyway, what I’m really trying to say is that I’ll accept all of your apologies now.
