Why is Tennessee not in the top 10 ?

Climbing your way in as opposed to starting in (staying in) and climbing up costs your team in many different ways.

The value of starting in the top-25 cannot be ignored. You obviously need to maintain.

You are mostly right, but I guarantee Texas gets ranking boost when Arch becomes a true Freshman.

Again recruiting classes are part of the formula not the only metric….also if you going to try to be a wise guy they have only had one top 10 recruiting class since 2019…. Also it isn’t just one recruiting class voters look at…. The whole point of this is to say recruiting class rankings matter in the decision making process for preseason top 25 voting that is all and we need every advantage we can get.

Very few true freshman have that big of an impact on your teams with the highest rated classes year in and year out. For instance Alabama is always ranked top 2 or 3 in polls and recruiting. The polls are based off of previous years and the classless 2 and 3 years before experience. Not the ranking of stars on the current class entering the first semester of college.

He probably won’t start as a true freshman. Not sure why that would give them a boost.

We are not talking recruiting classes. We are talking about the most recent class to sign coming in. If you say recruiting classes then you are talking experience players returning just like I previously said rankings were based off of.

Because the preseason polls come out before the first game.

If Arch isn't the starter the second poll will reflect the win or loss.

Texas is preseason top 25 just about every year no matter how crappy they were the year before. Mostly because of their name, potential and wait for it…incoming recruits.

I have a very very hard time believing AP voters are checking 247 sports for recruiting rankings before placing their votes. Blue Blood , who is the coach and what have you done lately seem like the formula they use.

I suspect you are right... which might explain why they are so wrong, so often.

Texas signed the number one QB in the nation last year. If he is what they thought he was they will know who the starter will be before the polls come out.
