1.5 million cfs at the spillway is the magic number which is the current flow rate at Vicksburg Mississippi.

Old river hydropower plant is sucking out 253000 cfs.

Summary of Revised Standing instructions to operate the Morganza Spillway. I think these were adopted in 2014.

Basically they open the spillway when the downstream flow rate is 1.5 million CFS AND the elevation of the water on the River side of the structure is 57.0 feet NAVD88.

If any of you guys cruise up to the Morganza Spillway, I was up there late January. There is a nesting pair of bald eagles on the west end on the north side in a tree by itself. Pretty unexpected and magnificent.

He made a cameo appearance a couple of months ago on a topic not nearly as near and dear to his heart as hydro engineering. I sure miss our BWK. That's not to say I won't get tired of him really fast... but his thread contributions were epic.
