RIP. He was a great UL fan. I remember well when he was a sports broadcaster.

He was the sports guy in the late 70s. Still saw him every year for UL basketball games. Great fan.

His daughter Casey and my son ran CC & track at the same time. Would see him at all the meets.

Tom was the KLFY (Channel 10) sports director from the late 70's to the mid 80's. That coincided with the strong Bobby Paschal Cajun basketball teams. He gave tremendous coverage to that program at the time and was beyond thrilled when that team had success. I remember having not lived in New Orleans very long when the Cajuns beat UNO in their Chamber of Horrors on a last second shot by Alonzo Allen. Cajun fans almost stormed an opponents court that night and Tom was partying with all the fans when that happened. I remember him saying it sure is fun to win at that time.

His passing is a reminder of how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken. He was helping run things for the media at MBB games as recently as this past season. That makes 5 Cajuns within the past month who have gone home. If they have anything to do with it, we will have another successful athletic year starting in a couple of months.

I remember him on channel 10 but didn't he do the BB rebroadcast of the Blackham games on channel 15 in the 80s with Rich Shuebrooks(SP)?

One of them had the catch phrase "LOCK UP THE WOMAN AND CHILDREN" right before an Alonza slam.

Sad to hear the news, may he rest in peace.

Two things stick out from watching this. No 3 pt. line and playing for the last shot with 1:19 to go in the game lol. I remember seeing this live, then going back home to rewatch it on channel 15. Blackham was electric that night. Thanks for posting.

I believe Coach Paschel would later go on to coach Stetson.

Coach Pascal was a graduate of Stetson. When he left USL he went to South Florida

Thanks. The memory can get jumbled. I remember this being a big game for Coach Pascal. I also remember Stetson throwing hats before the game.

PS Feel free to use the women and children phrase whenever the next Alonza shows up ☺️☺️☺️ Us 80s dudes will appreciate it.

Don't know if we will see another Alonzo Allen. Anthony Johnson (The Easter Bunny) and Dwayne Mitchell from the Jessie Evans days had some highlight dunks. I guess JeKeenan Gant is the most exciting dunker we have had in the tenure of Coach Marlin. One more piece of evidence that Tom loved this program is a request that any donations to honor him would go to RCAF.

My mom was probably 9 months pregnant at this game and I’m pretty sure I was there with her and my dad lol
Watching that like you said there was no 3 point line but the last shot would have been a 3. JC also didn’t get the shot off before the horn sounded. I wish there were more old videos like this.

Wow, that brings back great memories. That was my favorite Cajun team ever.

And in today’s world of replay…I think that game goes to OT

Certainly looks like the horn sounded before the ball left JC’s hands

I knew this was going to get brought up. Either channel 3 or 10 put a stopwatch to the replay and it showed the shot leaving Johnny's hand in time. Who knows how accurate this analysis was but I was satisfied with their conclusion.

Not sure if it was that game but I brought you to your first one at Blackham when you were two weeks old. The entire section took turns holding you and finally handed you back over at the end of the game. Those things just don’t happen today. There is a reason you’re hooked on UL sports….
