BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Drivers hoping to show their support of
the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints would be able to buy a
specialized license plate, under legislation that received approval
from a House committee Tuesday.
The specialized plate would be designed by working with the NFL
team, said Rep. Jeff Arnold, D-New Orleans, the sponsor of the bill
(House Bill 165).
The measure sailed through the House Transportation Committee
and heads next to the full House for debate.
"World Champion New Orleans Saints" license plates would cost
$28.50 on top of the traditional fees for a plate charged by the
state Office of Motor Vehicles based on the value of a vehicle. The
dollars raised by the sale of the plates would be split among
parishes for recreational programs.
The Saints license plate would join more than 100 other such
specialized plates offered to drivers in Louisiana.
