Thread: Matt Deggs not satisfied with Sun Belt's move to single-elimination format

  1. UL Baseball Matt Deggs not satisfied with Sun Belt's move to single-elimination format

The UL Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team has been in Montgomery, Alabama since Monday and still hasn’t played a single game yet.

The No. 4-seeded Cajuns are now scheduled to meet No. 5 seed and defending Sun Belt champion South Alabama at 4 p.m. Friday to begin a single-elimination version of the Sun Belt tournament at Riverwalk Stadium.

And Cajuns coach Matt Deggs isn’t very happy about it.

No, it's better to play & win 2 games against Texas State than just 1.

The SEC is going to get their double elimination tournament in. They rolled with the punches. Only 90 miles north.

Even the SWAC is getting in their double elimination. They’re using two stadiums! SunBelt could have easily done the same.

I think the single elimination is better for our pitching staff than a double would have been. Win today and I like our chances against Tx St out of their ball bark trying to beat us 4 in a row and then see what Sunday brings. Lets Geaux.

Single elimination works in our favor here. We can beat anyone.

The tournament was designed to be a double elimination format. Like all the others. Yet again, this broke ____ conference has failed. Failed the players, coaches, and fans. These young men didn't sign up for this. For those that think this is a "good thing", let's hear what you think if it's one and done. Zero effort by this conference. Just like in 2017 when they were starting games at 11:00 at night in Hoover. In Stateboro, the Sunbelt's illustrious leaders were sitting around with their fingers up their azz. It's called not caring. Just get it over with so they can move on to football. It's inexcusable.

Single elimination helps with our pitching situation. I get that. But the conference needs to find a way to come up with some kind of alternative to weather issues. There is no reason why we have not come up with a contingency plan.

This is exactly correct. Chicken ____ conference that wants to play with the big boys. They are happy being a 3 bid league and have no interest in holding a real tournament.
