Thread: Ragin Cajun Connection podcast with Dr. Maggard

I just got a chance to listen to the interview today driving back from San Marcos, moving by Fr daughter back.

Dr Maggard gave very detailed answers to the vast majority of the questions. The two that were the most important to me were:

    1. The lifting of limits on cost containment by the NCAA. Meaning no limits to schools and/or conferences to fund more coaches, more scholarships, etc. I know it was discussed on this board before, but it really hit home on how really only a dozen or so universities can really compete at that level.

    2. RCAF funding. He made it very clear why it is important for RCAF to be beneath the Foundation, but also every dollar given to RCAF and particular sports or causes is designated appropriately and used for that specific purpose.

Around streaming for diamond sports, my reading between the lines is it a money prioritization issue. Dr. Maggard chooses to spend the budgetary dollars in other ways. How do other schools do it and we don't? Maybe they don't have the nutritionists and food budget we have? Maybe they don't have the amount of weight room and training staff we have? Who knows?

I think the streaming fee per season ticket is a very good idea and hopefully one that is brought to his attention.

I would use a smaller fee to kick start content salesmen.

I beliveve a motivated, competent, content sales force can generate far more imcome than broadcasting requires.

Commercials during half innings would go a long way. Could that be part of learfields inventory, I don’t know. Isn’t ESPN supposed to pay us for our content through sunbelt tv deals. I pay a subscription to ESPN+ to be able to watch. Not a fan of tacking on another fee, unless Ticketmaster would start waiving some of there’s.

Not the NCAA, it is the MWC. It is, and as far as I know always up to the conferences to choose a way to pick a champion. Because of geography, the MWC gets no benefit from divisions, whereas the SBC saves a lot of travel cost.

I would be interested in doing that for my business. I'm sure other UL fans with businesses would also.

Dr. Maggard mentioned that they are doing construction at Earl K Long. Any details of what this space is getting?

EKL is being turned into a volleyball only facility. WBB coaching offices being moved into Dome. Hopefully their won't be any more Mardi Gras conflicts at the Dome going forward. Women did play at EKL late in the season due to a conflict. Better coordination needed on that front. Taking basketball out of it, hopefully the changes at EKL allow volleyball recruiting to improve.

I assume women will now be using the practice facility court?
