Thread: Roux: Themus Fulks

  1. Default Re: Roux: Themus Fulks

…..I think the USA coach said Fulks only made 11 3s all year….ergo double or triple Brown….Guess I can mention one negative and tell me if I am wrong….think Brown doesn’t have really strong hands by not holding on to rebounds and sometimes when doubled….that said, he is no doubt on of the greatest Cajuns I have ever seen here!

    Right around 70%

I liked his ability to see that JB was doubled and tripled all night and was able to take the game over himself and go elsewhere with the ball. Great job by TF on championship Monday.

You only considered his year at SC State where he was considered when of the top freshman in their conference. You based your opinion of a player on how the team did. He may have had little talent around him. You also ignored his HS accomplishments in HS which were pretty significant. The reason he was not recruited by better known programs is due to the fact he was not active in AAU ball. Having said all that, I figured he would challenge for playing time but was not certain he would beat out Michael Thomas. We have no clue how well players will perform when they are recruited. For example, I thought Jalen Johnson would be a nice contributor after transferring from St. Louis. I missed his defensive issues which were significant. That miss causes me to be cautious on projecting players. We signed 2 guards in the fall. I don't have an inkling of what their abilities are at this point. I need to research it more.
    This roasting is well deserved!!!!

When it comes to recruiting, there are obvious wants and reaches every day.

I doubt all coaches on the staff are 100% unanimous on every player.

I actually love that Fulks has something to point out to show his true worth, but I didn't read any blatant "you are wrong posts" until after Fulks made his perfect response.

The smart posts said "wait and see" and Cajunchuck's Elfrid Payton comment was the perfect analogy

Well Terrance Lewis came from Jackson State amongst other places and not only started for us but was literally one of our most valuable players all season and is a very big reason we are doing what we are doing. In basketball, the size of the school a player comes from doesn't worry me as much about their ability to adapt to a system and other players.

Themus will be a key guy vs Tennessee but I bet he is up to the challenge. Apparently one of Tennessee's top guards is out due to injury and that may be why the Vols faltered somewhat late. Perhaps Themus can take advantage of that situation. I do want to clarify one of my earlier comments. Coach Morris did make the initial contact with Themus but Coach Marlin himself did the bulk of the heavy lifting when it came to his recruitment and getting him to become a Cajun. It is obvious he has a great deal of respect for Coach Marlin. I recall after the first USM game in the Dome, Themus was the post game player guest for the media. He mentioned that he felt the staff and Coach Marlin specifically were given undue criticism after the tough New Year's Eve weekend road trip. He said the team did not appreciate that and used that as motivation to play well against USM. I don't think they need much motivation to play in the NCAA tournament however.
