Are they proposing no limit on roster spots? Surely you can't have 60 players in the dugout or on travel parties.

Back in the day [pre 1970 or so], schools like Texas, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State etc had as many as 200 on scholarship for football. Then the NCAA went to scholarship limits and Alabama had like 20-30 guys on minor sports scholarships playing football... hence the "Bear Bryant Rule".

The only article I read didn’t mention roster spots. I guess there could be an active roster with some inactive maneuverability.

The sunbelt doesnt have 4 umpires for conference series. How many scholarships you think we will get? Lol

Im not convinced the four man system is superior to the three man system.
Besides with just three game conference series, not sure if crews are always the same, you risk one guy going a couple weeks without working the plate and getting rusty.

Bottom line is consistency is needed, whichever system you work you should work that as much as possible rather than jumping back and forth.

Still looks like roster caps at 35. Just giving them the opportunity to give scholly's to all 35 players.

The caveat is, conferences will vote on these measures... Interesting

What are the rules regarding having a JV team? No opinion on the proper number for roster cap, but seems the redshirts and those above the cap could be placed on a JV and still get to practice and improve, maybe even play a few games or scrimmages. Seems some smaller schools (mostly private/ academies) have JV but not larger schools, kind of seems backwards in how I thought that would play out.

Meanwhile regardless the number that is chosen for scholarships, I think the better question is will they be “full counters”.
This partial scholarship system seems open to abuse and a lack of auditing.

Seems hard for me to believe with all these years of this guy getting a third of a scholarship for academics and this guy getting a fifth for 4H and an eighth bc great granpa built the railroad or whatever all these scenarios are, that all of this was ever audited by the NCAA. When someone is a first round draft pick, even if they pay full price bc their dad is elon musk, they should never have ever counted as a “walk-on”. I would really like to peruse the files of some of these c and d students on full academic scholarship or see the cancelled checks from some of these parents of partial scholarship top picks for my own eyes.

Well i can tell you this…when you cant appeal to a base umpire on a check swing bc that umpire is in the middle of the field like a coach pitch league game…that isnt good. Overall the umpiring in the conference is bad. Like BAD. Terrible way to save a few dollars

Yeah, if this league is too cheap for a 4th ump, I can't see them voting for 35 full scholarships.

Good point, but how many times does that happen in a game. And actually you still can. But it isnt like Home has no idea what happened and are seeking help out of the blue. He has made a decision and defense is seeking to over rule that decision.

Meanwhile, isnt there an umpire shortage (all sport/level official shortage)?
so A. Are there enough?
and B. if you think bad now would adding 6 or 7 umps to the college level that otherwise wouldnt be there a good idea?
and c. the aforementioned lack of reps behind the plate, nothing like being rusty heading in to tournament time.

Hell no. This is devastating. It means the P5 schools will be able to scoop up more athletes for themselves.

VO has been saying this for years. The minute baseball and softball can offer full scholarships to the entire roster limit. It’s over for non-P5 programs.

There is still only 9 people playing at a time for 95% of the season, these kids want to play...look at the amount of transfers.

It does; but the only publicized case of extensive NIL programs that I have seen so far for non-headcount sports is for Arkansas Softball.
