    Default Can Percival Butler be?

the next CJGJ? I've been up & down the Saints draft order & the Saints have a definite need at the free safety position. I never liked Marcus Williams for very good reasons. Percy butler is a guy who hasn't gotten a lot of play going into this draft. But the fact is that the UL Ragin Cajuns did a LOT of damage the last couple of seasons on the defensive side of the ball. They had great play at a number of positions. But their back end was absolute nails. The problem is some times when you are nails, people fail to be able to see just how big of a hammer you were really swinging & who was swinging it.

Now the draft is just a couple of days away & with the need at safety, there just doesn't seem to be a fit on the draft board to meet our need at our pick until the 5th round. I'm loving Butler in this round as a guy who could easily instantly fit the Saints need at free safety. In this case he would definitely be best player available at that position. I know to Cajun fans who are also Saints fans this is might be a tall order to ask of a 5th round pick. But I will remind anyone who is a follower of the Saints that CJGJ was likewise a 5th round pick & has become probably the Saints best all around defender on the back end of their defense. I would love some CJGJ, Marshawn, Adebo & Butler working together with that front seven.

No. He can’t. Because his ceiling is higher.

Agree that it would be great if Butler was drafted by the Saints in the 5th round. I think though Chauncey was drafted in the 4th round, not the 5th. I understand your point, still a great pick in that round.

CJ Gardner was projected skill wise a lot higher than the 4th. Concern of character issues caused him to slide to the 4th.

That is correct. Worked out well for the Saints.

Of course you realize CJGJ is one of the best defenders in the NFL? It would be great to say Butler could be better. But let us shoot for a possibly realistic goal to start before we put him in Canton.

I don't see Percy Butler being the next CJGJ personally. I think even if he goes to the Saints he'll probably stay on a practice squad or only get a little bit of playing time. I think it would be awesome to have him with the Saints tho.

Ceedy is probably my favorite player on the Saints roster and probably one of my favorite players in recent memory. But he is no where near "one of the best defenders" in the NFL. Most impactful for his particular team? I can have a conversation about that. Best nickel CB in the league? I'd say he's probably top 3.
