It is his baby now. I understand with the passing of Toney and trying to do right for Tony, the athletic dept, and the program was probably a difficult task to navigate at the time given the timing and coaches involved. But, since then hes had the opportunity to make things better on the staff. However it all went down, there have been changes made. Its fully on his watch now. It might be the first year of that but its his baby now. It is an improvement over last year maybe…maybe, but its got to get alot better soon.
My biggest concern is pitching continues to be the scapegoat when we lose...
National Rankings - 211th in BA, 47th in ERA, 76th in FLD%
Overall stats among Sunbelt teams - 10th in BA, 3rd in ERA, 3rd in FLD%
Conference only stats - 8th in BA, 1st in ERA, 2nd in FLD%
Seems like our pitching is doing a damn good job considering they get little support from the offense. Unfortunately when they start faltering more because of the amount of stress innings throughout the season, they will be blamed again.
I get that the stats are the stats, but this team has won exactly ZERO games when scoring less than 5 runs. And they average 5.5 a game. Batting average doesn't tell the whole story, especially with a team that uses their legs as much as they do offensively.
They’ve won 5 times when the pitching has given up 5 runs (or more).
The stat about wins scoring less than 5 is pretty unbelievable 36 games in to a season. Batting average doesn't tell the whole story, but our inability to get on base is scary. Tied for 276th in walks, batting average 224, on base percentage 273. Despite ranking 10th in the nation in stolen bags we're still 211 in runs per game. The fact that we can't put ourselves in a position to do what our entire offense is predicated on doing is a huge problem.
You're definitely right that it's not one sided though. The three late game collapses in pitching and defense in conference were just devastating.
OPRA stats anyone?
