Teams we have played out of conference will help us by winning their games as well. Teams that we have played more than once will help or hurt us more. Teams of particular importance to us for RPI purposes are:

Texas [we played them 3 times; every win or loss by Texas is worth 3 wins or losses on the Opponents Record portion of the RPI]
Alabama, LSU, McNeese and UAB [we played each of these twice; every win or loss by these teams is worth 2 wins or losses on the Opponents Record portion of the RPI]

Obviously we want every team we have already played to win all their remaining games, but in order of importance for RPI purposes:

    1. Texas [10 games remaining: 29 possible OR points 30 minus 1 for Houston loss to Texas]
    2. UAB [9 games remaining: 18 possible OR points]
    3. Alabama [9 games remaining: 18 possible OR points]
    4. LSU [10 games remaining, but net 9 as they play McNeese: 18 possible OR points]
5: McNeese [11 games remaining, 1 against LSU which is a wash, 1 against ULM, which is better for us if ULM wins, assuming our ULM series has 3 games, 17 possible OR points]]
    6. Rainout at Georgia Southern [playing them and winning is worse than not playing them at all]

Also, since JMV posted, our RPI has inexplicably fallen to 35.

The losses to the Georgia teams hurt. Any TV for the game today?

Why are they called “quads” if they do not dissect the league into 4 equal parts?

Quads refer to the distinction made by the NCAA selection committee when determining at-large bids and seeding. Some wins are better than others. I am not sure where the breakpoints are for the quads, nor am I sure whether there are different breakpoints for home, road and neutral games. Generally speaking a Quad 1 win or loss is one against a top 75 RPI team, Quad 2 is 76-150, Quad 3 is 151-200, Quad 4 is 201+. Those may or may not be the divisions they actually use, but it is something similar. JMV is probably correct on the breakdown he gave; I did not research it.

In any event the break points are arbitrary, and [sarcasm on] probably are determined according to the RPI of the weakest SEC team [sarcasm off].

My rpi list was accurate as of the posting at 811pm. See you at the game soon.
