Thread: Anyone Else Enjoyed All 3 Streamed At ASU Last Weekend?

And to the person who says Maggard is being neutered by Martin Hall.. That's very interesting. Certainly wouldn't surprise many, given our history. I know there is a large contingent of major donors (Like, the top 1% of 1%) that have been disenfranchised over how some big money has been moved around over the last few years. I know there is a pretty vocal group upset by the timing and length of prep for the Cajun Field renovation.

If Martin Hall is dictating Maggard's moves, he won't be here much longer after the field is renovated. It would also explain his bizarre interview with Prather about Bob Marlin being retained, and some other things he's said privately.

My observations. We've put all of our athletic eggs in one basket (football) and there is no more excitement around the program than there was when Hud showed up. Meanwhile, basketball and diamond sports have lost the level of excitement that existed not too long ago. Blame the P5 schools, blame covid, blame the economy. All I know is as a one time diehard cajuns fan, I'm no longer a "by any means necessary" game attendee.

I’m at the ballpark/field more than most people. I also buy more tickets than I need to every sport to give away and promote the program. I always put the games on(generally away) wherever I am to try and promote the program. I’m tired of coming extra out of pocket to promote a program that doesn’t do everything to promote itself. I spend thousands of dollars on tickets that I don’t even need just to give away, so yes, it ____es me off when I hear “we can’t afford $5k to promote our product”

I understand. And I think it's generational as well. This generation doesn't live & breathe sports like the previous few did. Also, NIL and all the money that's been infused into an "amateur" entity has turned a lot of people off.

I think for me, we're still small enough and unheralded enough that we still have that novelty of being "for the people" or "for the community."

The thing that people aren't really talking about (regarding Football's success) is that applications for enrollment at UL are the highest they've ever been. In fact, broken records over the last two fiscal years. Obviously that's not solely due to football, but you'd be crazy not to acknowledge that athletics (football in particular) has had something to do with that. Also, people in the stands are not necessarily a direct representation of interest. We just set an SBC record for game attendance when we hosted the championship game. That's beating our App St, a program steeped in football history and fan support. We also have to acknowledge the power of being on national television multiple times during the Napier years having massive impact on our branding efforts.

Sometimes we get caught up in what we see and not necessarily on what's happening outside of our purview.

You are tired of coming extra out of pocket but you are asking the same folks who are in the same category as you to give just $30 more and you really believe that they will just pony the extra money up. Which is it? You can't keep bleeding and getting money out of the few folks who gives. You are crawfishing now.

I’m not crawfishing on ___...you obviously don’t have baseball season tickets bc you would know $30 isn’t ___ compared to all the other fees you have to pay that you get absolutely nothing in return. So yes, I’m willing to bet almost every season ticket holder would pays $30 without hesitation to have every home game available to watch. I’m tired of caring more than they do

I hear you on that. I have family season tickets to football, softball, baseball and have had them for a very long time. I am just saying you can't keep going to the well over and over(folks like me, you and sadly a small amount of others) somewhere alone the line you will come up empty.

My biggest gripe about the Maggard Administration has been inefficient spending. Yes, we've achieved some incredible things and we've gotten some things done from a fund raising stand point, but I'm not willing to listen to an administration telling me it's financially sound reasoning to keep a coach (and give him a raise! contactually obligated, but still) making $675k next year for a career 54% winning percentage and one NCAA appearance (where the real money is for the program and league) but we can't afford $75k to broadcast the single most successful men's sport over the course of 30 years because it's a "cost saving" measure... FOH

For the record, I'd pay the extra $30. I think it's worth it for me, but more importantly, for the program.

I get Melrock's comments about milking the few that pay the most. But at the end of the day, we care the most, so we'll almost always pony up. They know it, we know it.

That's my point also. But how do you grow the fan base that way, if it is always the same folks.
