Umpire making the call on a tag has to make sure the ball is caught and held. No excuse for that call.

Looked like the 2B played it off. I don’t see the defensive player show the ball to the umpire for every out.

It’s the wrong call. But you can’t call what you didn’t see.

One thing he didn’t see was a glove with a ball in it as the play was made. But he called it. This was as sorry a call as any today.

I agree. Umpire should not make the call until he confirms the defender held onto it through the tag.

Doesn’t happen after every out. Doesn’t really happen after most outs. He saw the catch. A 3B ump would have seen the ball come out and when it came out.

The 2B kind of sold it.
