Menard has 15 appearances allowing earned runs in 5, but allowed earned runs in just 3 of the last 13 appearances. His first two appearances in Feb. account for 5 of his nine earned runs. Since Feb. 22 he allowed 4 ER in 12.8 IP. His ERA is 2.81 with a respectable 1.33 WHIP since then.

Agreed. His outings are not pretty for whatever reason. He seems to get behind the count and relies on defense more than K's (10.91 per 9 IP). I think his stuff is better than he thinks and he nibbles a bit. His velocity is up and that can take time to get comfortable with. I think Top said he is low 90's. I'm becoming a fan.

Relying on defense was a dicey way to pitch until recently. Through 31 games we have 33 errors, 11 (down 25%) less than last year. We have the 3rd best fielding % in the league, compared to 9th last year.
